Readers Say This Mineral Sunscreen Feels Like ‘Nothing’
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Most people don’t love their sunscreen. They tolerate it, because skipping it isn’t an option. So, when a new product manages to flip that relationship, it’s worth paying attention to.

That’s exactly what happened when NewBeauty’s BeautyPass program sent Lerinn Beauty’s ZincPure Sunmilk SPF 50 ($49) to members as a Free Gift Friday pick this summer. Most had never encountered the sunscreen before—83.7 percent of the 403 people who responded to our follow-up survey said they had no prior awareness of the product at all, meaning nearly everything below is a reaction to the formula itself, with zero brand loyalty or hype cushioning the response.

“It feels like nothing is on my skin, which is unusual for a sunscreen,” one happy reader shared. “And even though it feels like nothing is there, it makes my skin look really healthy, glowing and hydrated. It’s a win-win for sun protection and skin health. I’m not easily excited about sunscreens, as long as they work and don’t irritate my skin. But now I reach for this product and feel good about it every day. I live in SoCal, so anything that helps me stick to sun protection out of delight rather than obligation deserves kudos.”

That sentiment shows up across the data, not just in one testimonial. Texture was the single most-cited reason people liked the product, named by 55.9 percent of respondents in our survey—well ahead of effectiveness (46.1 percent) and ease of use (42.7 percent). Reviewers reached for comparisons well outside the sunscreen aisle to describe it. “It soaks in beautifully, blends seamlessly into my skin and leaves zero heavy or chalky residue,” wrote another reader, who compared the formula to a luxury Japanese milky emulsion. “It is a 100-percent mineral zinc sunscreen that actually feels high-end and elegant.”

For a zinc oxide formula—the mineral category most associated with chalky, gray-cast finishes that send people running back to chemical sunscreens—that reaction shows up again and again in the reviews, almost word for word: No cast, no residue, disappears on contact.

The people vouching for it aren’t just casual users, either. Kimberly C., a licensed master aesthetician since 2004, called it her new daily go-to after trying “nearly every type of SPF.” Amy T., 46, uses it as part of a strict regimen for managing heat- and hormone-triggered melanoma and says it leaves her “clear rather than chalky” with only the faintest scent from the active ingredients. Cheryl E., a cancer patient who’s not supposed to be in the sun, uses it on her face, neck, chest and hands specifically because it isn’t sticky and dries down soft. Sarah D., who manages type 1 and type 2 rosacea, called it one of the only sunscreens that doesn’t flare her skin or leave a film, adding that it “wears incredibly well under makeup.”

The performance numbers back up the anecdotal praise. Asked to compare it directly to other SPFs they’d used, 68.3 percent said ZincPure Sunmilk was better than similar products on the market, including 32.5 percent who called it “much better.” Overall satisfaction landed at an average of 4.3 out of 5 stars, with 84.4 percent of respondents rating it a 4 or 5, and the average likelihood-to-recommend score hit 8.0 out of 10.

For readers who’ve been burned (sometimes literally) by mineral formulas promising “no white cast” and not delivering, or who’ve defaulted to chemical sunscreens out of texture frustration, ZincPure Sunmilk SPF 50 is worth the introduction. The consensus from nearly 400 people who tried it with no preconceptions: It disappears, it doesn’t compromise on feel and for a lot of testers, it’s earning a spot in daily routines rather than just emergency beach bags.
